Privacy Policy

Water Operator Prep is built around a simple idea: studying for your California water operator exam shouldn't require an account, a subscription, or handing over personal information. This policy explains exactly what data the site does and does not collect.

The short version

No accounts. No sign-up. No email collected.
Your study progress is stored only in your own browser.
We use a privacy-first analytics service that does not set cookies and does not collect personal information.
We do not sell or share your information for advertising.

What we collect

Information you provide

We do not ask you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, or payment information. The only time you would send information is if you choose to email us at the address listed under "Contact" below, in which case we receive whatever you put in that email.

Information stored on your device

The app saves your study progress — practice attempts, mock exam history, flashcard reviews, your selected track and target grade, and similar preferences — using your browser's localStorage. This data lives only on your own device. It does not get sent to us, and it does not move between devices unless you use the in-app Export / Import feature to move it yourself.

Clearing your browser's site data, or using the "Reset" option in the app's data menu, will erase this stored progress.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand which pages people visit and how the site is performing. Cloudflare's analytics product is designed to be privacy-first: it does not set cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not collect data that could be used to identify or track an individual across sites. IP addresses are processed transiently to derive coarse geography (typically country / region) and are not retained in identifiable form. Service-worker cache

To make the app installable and offline-capable, we register a service worker that caches the app's HTML, JavaScript, and PDF formula sheets in your browser. This is a technical cache of public files — it contains no personal information.

What we do not collect

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party ad networks.
We do not run cross-site tracking pixels.
We do not sell, rent, or share information for advertising or marketing.
We do not collect or process payment information on this site.

Third-party services

The site loads a small number of third-party resources:

Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and privacy-first web analytics, as described above.
Google Fonts — the display font ("Outfit") is loaded from Google's CDN. When your browser loads a font, Google receives the request as part of normal CDN operation. Google has stated that it does not use Google Fonts requests to build advertising profiles. See Google's Fonts privacy notice.
Venmo — only if you click the optional "Tip on Venmo" link in the footer. That link sends you to venmo.com, which has its own privacy policy.

Your privacy rights

Because we do not collect personal information about you, most data subject requests do not apply in a meaningful sense — there is no server-side profile to access, correct, or delete. The information related to your use of the app lives in your own browser, and you can export it, import it, or delete it directly from the app's data menu.

California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to correct inaccurate personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA / CPRA, and we do not collect "sensitive personal information" through this site. If you would still like to exercise a right (for example, to confirm in writing that we hold no information about you), email us using the address below and we will respond within the timeframes the law requires.

European Economic Area / United Kingdom

The site is operated from the United States and is intended for California water operators. If you visit from outside the United States, the limited information described above (analytics telemetry, font requests) may be processed in the United States. The lawful basis for that processing is our legitimate interest in operating and securing a free study tool.

Children

The site is intended for adult learners pursuing professional certifications. It is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because we do not store user accounts or personal data on servers, there is no central credential database to compromise.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
